Scanned words must go through Optical Character Recognition to
be turned into text that can be edited in a word processor.

This is sometimes necessary for text that is not readily
available in electronic format. It is not practical to place
large images of text on a web site as they take to long to load.
OCR has improved greatly and we can scan text from brochures and
newspapers, but the resulting product needs a lot of proof
reading and reformatting to make it web ready.
